I was massively delighted to read that Robert W. Coleman Elementary School have been offering Meditation instead of Detention with some remarkable results.  I was equally excited to be invited to talk about this on BBC radio.

Now to some people meditation as a alternative to detention seems like a cop out. Do something bad and get let off by chilling out in amongst some soft furnishing.

Well actually if you're thinking about a long term solution, is punishment by sitting in a class staring at a wall or doing line the best answer?

Wouldn't it be better to help get to the core reason why the student is acting out and give them some tools to help with their state of mind? I think so, and the results are speaking for themselves.  Suspensions have dropped to zero since this initiative has been taken up.

By teaching mindfulness and meditation we can empower children to find their own space and calm.  They can cultivate a deeper connection to themselves  and in turn others.

Now with supervision and support this can be a really transformation idea and I pray it will be taken up by schools in the UK!

If you would like me to teach meditation at your school please get in touch and email me today on info@cherishhealing.com
